Arsenal’s first premier league under new manager Unai Emery ended in a 2-0 loss against defending champions Manchester City.
It was a tough encounter as the champions oozed confidence behind an intelligent coach Pep Guardiola.
This has seen pundits and club legend sending comments to inform reporters of their take on the display by the Arsenal players chiefly among them is Ian Wright. The legend has come out to slate the strategy employed by Unai Emery has uncertain and devoid of game plan.
Although all was not gloomy as he identified two players for praise even if they lost to Manchester City who after picking up from where they stopped last season impressed their supporters.
The likes of 19-year-old Guendouzi and diminutive Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira had a good game according to Ian Wright’s opinion.
“At this level against this Man City team you need to 100 per cent execute the game plan,” he wrote on Twitter.
“For large parts of that game I didn’t know what that was and you get punished for that tactical uncertainty.
“There are some big positional and personnel decisions to be made ahead of the Chelsea game on Saturday.
“Patience required but Unai will be under no illusions after watching that game today.”
Arsenal’s next match is on Saturday against Chelsea who won their first game 3-0 against Huddersfield. Wright has rightly counselled that the game plan must be spot on from the beginning to ensure a good result.
Chelsea also have players that are gradually adapting to the speed and intensity of the premier league – Jorginho, Kepa Arrizabalega and Kovacic all need to bed in before the season starts properly.
The match between Arsenal and the Blues will hopefully see a lot of the mistakes in their first game curtailed to the nearest minimum.
