The fans are not to celebrate just yet since Mohamed Elneny’s move to Arsenal is still in doubt at the moment.
It was earlier reported that the player had undergone the club’s medicals successfully and was set to complete a £7.3m move today. However, recent reports suggest that it has hit snag.
Via Transfertavern, they report that the English FA have blanked the club’s advances to secure a work permit for the 23-year-old.
According to the FA’s stringent rule as regards work permit: signings from outside the EU must come from one of the world’s top 50 nations.
Elneny having played for Egypt is ineligible to complete his Arsenal transfer since Egypt are currently on the 57th spot on the World FIFA ranking.
The good news is that there is a loophole in the rule since the player is a full-fledged international, having secured 39 caps with his national team -Which implies that he is a talent worth harnessing.
Arsenal are reportedly set to appeal and may announce the player’s arrival next week if all goes to plan.
