Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out the possibility of adding more players to the squad and believes that the club would sign if the player(s) would add to the quality of the squad.
He got lots of sticks after the summer transfer window for refusing to sign an outfield player; the Gunners only signed Petr Cech from Chelsea. Arsenal have been plagued with lots of injuries lately and it all came to a fore when Oxlade Chamberlain and Theo Walcott were both substituted within the first 20 minutes of the game against Sheffield Wednesday.
That has brought back intense criticisms and Wenger believes if the opportunity arises, that he would recruit more players.
“I said during the transfer period that we would take players who can strengthen our squad, but we did not find them,” he said.
“The question was not even ‘do we sign them or not?’ we have not found one player who could strengthen our squad.
“We need to get everybody back. We have a very big squad. We are not shutting the door as well [in January].
“If we find opportunities, we will do [them]. Having everybody back, especially offensively, I feel we have what we need.”
With the inclusion of chamberlain and Walcott in the physio’s room, we have lost 8 senior players to injury and it is not yet January. It can be recalled last two seasons that Arsenal dropped from the top of the table in February due injuries to key players and lack of quality signings. Wenger bought just Kim Kallstrom and we were left to lick our wounds.
